Holy Cross Catholic Church dates back 134 years to 1866 when it was a mission of Meyersville blessed under the patronage of the Immaculate Conception and called St. Mary's.
On April 7, 1915, the original church was destroyed by fire. The pastor, Father John Jachtyl, enlisted the support of the parishioners to erect the present large brick church in the same year.
The new brick church was built for $28,000. The furnishings cost $20,000. Generous donations from parish families purchased beautiful stained glass windows, which cost $100 each and were designed by Jacoby Art Glass in St. Louis Missouri. Somehow, miraculously, the cross atop the steeple survived and now sits on the ledge at the base of the current steeple. The name of the new Church was changed to Holy Cross.
The cornerstone was laid on September 14, 1915,
the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
The 100th Anniversary was celebrated September 13, 2015 at the annual Parish Feast. The Most Reverend Bishop Brendan J. Cahill officiated the 9:30 am Mass with Father Roger Hawes.
